At Reading Nook Tutoring, our reading assessment test helps parents understand their child’s current reading level, strengths, and areas where extra support may be needed. We assess key literacy skills such as receptive language, word recognition, reading comprehension, phonemic awareness, and decoding & segmenting skills to understand both strengths and areas for growth. From there, we create a personalized learning plan that helps your child build reading confidence, improve comprehension, and move forward with targeted support. This assessment is the first step in helping your child unlock their full reading potential.

Your child may benefit from a reading assessment if they avoid reading, guess at words, read slowly, struggle to sound out unfamiliar words, have trouble remembering what they read, mix up letter sounds, or feel frustrated during homework. A reading assessment can help pinpoint the reason behind these challenges and show what type of support will help most.
A reading assessment may look at receptive language, word recognition, reading comprehension, decoding, letter-sound knowledge, phonemic awareness, and fluency-related skills. These areas help show how your child reads and where extra support may be needed.
A reading assessment can identify patterns that may suggest your child is struggling with decoding, phonemic awareness, or other reading-related skills, but it is not a medical or psychological diagnosis. If parents are concerned about dyslexia or a learning disability, they may also want to speak with their child’s school or a qualified assessment professional.
We work with children from kindergarten through grade 8, supporting early readers just starting to learn sounds and letters, as well as older students building fluency, comprehension, and confidence.
We begin with an assessment to understand your child’s strengths and challenges, then create a plan that targets their specific needs. Lessons are tailored with strategies, activities, and reading materials that match their learning style and goals.
All reading tutoring sessions are held on Zoom. This allows us to connect face-to-face, share interactive reading activities, and use digital tools that make learning engaging and effective.
Most children show progress right away with sounding out words and increased confidence. On average, it takes about 12 weeks of consistent tutoring to bring a child up to grade level. However, every child is unique and some may make faster gains while others may need more time and support.
